UAE Car Insurance Grace Period & Fines for Expired Policies
Do not rely on an informal “grace period”
Drivers sometimes assume a few days after expiry are automatically forgiven. In practice, an expired policy can mean you are uninsured for new accidents, and authorities may impose penalties for operating without valid cover.
Treat the policy end date as hard. Set reminders 30 and 14 days prior.
What happens if cover lapses
You may face fines, registration blocks, and personal liability for third-party damages. Insurers can also refuse to backdate cover for periods when the car was driven uninsured.
If your policy already expired, stop driving until a new policy is issued — then complete any RTA requirements promptly.
Renewal habits that prevent fines
Compare quotes early, keep WhatsApp documents ready, and bind before Mulkiya or policy expiry — whichever comes first. Ask about short-term options only as a last resort.
Our team can help you replace an expiring policy with a CBUAE-aligned offer the same day in many cases.
